Checking in

I am trying this blog thing. Mostly just as a practice to collect my thoughts and be more intentional with my self improvement. I am in a bit of a rut professionally. I used to work as a full stack developer. Now I’m working in an environment where I have an abundance of free time. In many cases I’ll have a piece of work where I’ll make a change, and have to wait more than 40 minutes to validate if the change worked as intended. In these lulls, I can be a self-starter and find things to work on in parallel, but there’s little reward for working on tickets that aren’t currently in your sprint. In some cases, it can be easier to lose track of who’s working on what if I go off-script.

So there’s kind of a quandary, how do I efficiently make use of the time I have while I’m waiting?

Right now I have a few things I would like to work on, but I’m finding it very difficult to capitalize on lulls in work. Being able to context-switch efficiently and regain focus quickly is a skill that has atrophied. I’m going to work at getting focus back. It starts today. We’re doing it.

What can I work on?

  • Spotify cardio list generation, getting back into frontend
  • Machine learning explanation, getting back into ML / Math
  • Golang Refresher
  • Duolingo practice
